The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an Employee Relations Specialist to join our People and Culture Team!

As an Employee Relations Specialist you will provide timely and accurate employment-related guidance and support to managers and employees for industrial and employee relations matters.

This role is primarily responsible for supporting and coordinating employee relations activities through data analysis, aiding audit and compliance efforts. It ensures the application of People and Culture policies and processes across the business to minimise risk.

Your day-to-day

  • Provide advice and effectively interpret applicable Awards, IR legislation and People and Culture policies to provide support to various internal business stakeholders.
  • Research and review relevant legislation in order to update and maintain internal documentation (attend workshops and seminars as required).
  • Ensure People and Culture procedures remain up to date and provide recommendations to the Leadership Team.
  • Provide support for project deliverables within the ER strategy to mitigate risk to the business and optimise business performance.
  • Coordinate and assist with employee relations matters, including grievances and disputes, by conducting thorough, objective, and effective first-line investigations and identifying appropriate escalations.
  • Administer, collect, and analyse data, and conduct internal audits to ensure continuous compliance with employment legislation and Awards. Escalate findings and trends to the Head of People Services and other People and Culture leaders.
  • Provide guidance and recommend suitable applications to People and Culture team members and leaders on employee relations issues including compliance requirements (e.g. working with children checks, working rights, etc), diversity and inclusion, performance management, grievance and disciplinary policy and procedure.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to the HR Coordinators within the Employee Relations support function as a senior member of the team.
  • Build strong relationships with all key stakeholders of the business, thereby instilling trust and confidence in the People and Culture function.
  • Contribute to the development of people management skills and leadership capability across the business, including ongoing advice, support and coaching and training.

Key areas of highly desirable skills are:

  • Formal qualifications in HR, Employment Law or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years of HR experience
  • Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast paced, multi-site organisation.
  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong time management and organising skills.
  • Demonstrates initiative, capacity to work without supervision and confidence in decision-making.
  • Hold, or be willing to obtain, a valid working with children check
